More about Katja Hansen
Ms. Katja Hansen, P.Eng., has a degree in environmental engineering, and is a research fellow at Technische Universität München. She also lectures at the Exeter University Circular Economy executive learning program. Ms. Hansen is chief scientific advisor to the Cradle to Cradle NGO.
With respect to low income countries, as a researcher in the 1990’s with EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung and Hamburger Umweltinstitut e.V. Ms. Hansen co-authored formative studies in Latin America, Africa, and Europe on “Intelligent Product System” (IPS) methods for agrochemicals, nutrient recycling and natural and synthetic fibers, including for the FAO and UNICEF. In 1992 she was Scientific Director of a European Commission infrastructure project that transferred water recycling and algae production technologies from China and Germany to Brazil. Today, the systems are being used by more than ten thousand residents in several different countries, including the island nation of Haiti. Her resulting co-authored publication “Guide to Wastewater Recycling in Tropical Climates” was the first publication by the European Commission on water recycling in such regions.
