OLi-Shakespeare for ESL

Cheer in a time of challenge

There are reasons to be worried about current events and the state of the world, but sometimes it is important to take a break for learning and a laugh, especially with people outside our usual circles.

At OLi-works we write original comedy plays to enable groups to get together on-line and develop their enunciation and pronunciation skills. We learn new words and develop some acquaintance with science and technology terminology. We make friends across time zones, get introduced to different locations through a personal lens and hone voice acting skills — all in an hour.  We can even show you how to turn yourself into a “movie star” by using some lighting techniques on Zoom.

Our flagship project is an adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s lighter comedies, “The Merry Wives of Windsor”, into a modern play called “the Three Wise Wives of Windsor” – or tTWWW for short. Details on this workshop series and its themes are described here.

ESL by play reading

We have discovered that, along with developing English and voice-acting skills for native English speakers, this play, and others we have written for OLi-works, lend themselves for training in English as a Second Language (ESL). We have completed a pilot, and are now offering this ESL workshop series to clients. We meet on:

Fridays at 20h00 ET

We suggest this activity as a relaxing way to end your work week, with one hour of reading out loud, having a laugh and meeting others who appreciate the performing arts.

Cost-effective, low-carbon training and entertainment

Your first drop-in is free.  Subsequent workshops featuring different scenes or audio interview scripts are available in bundles of five for a cost of CAD$25 per person.  Would you like to come along?  If so, contact us.
